Natural Wonders Discovery

GEOHERITAGE TOUR - A tour around the highest point of the Magaliesberg Mountain Range, one of the oldest Mountain Ranges in the world. This is a hands-on experience of the geology, ancient stone tool workshop and pecked engravings where we visit a rain-making site which features a giant carved statue of a rain bull.

NOOITGEDACHT BATTLEFIELD TOUR - We explore the Battlefield on and around Nooitgedacht Mountain, the highest point of the Magaliesberg Mountain Range in a game drive vehicle, where the biggest battle of the guerilla phase of the Anglo-Boer War was fought on 13th December 1900. You are driven between battlefield highlights, where we walk to various features – including forts, sangars and heliograph stations – on cut and well-maintained paths.

PETROGLYPH WALK - From the lodge we walk to an ancient and prolific rain-making site – “The Gallery” – where we highlight the most important Bushman fine-line rock engravings. Here we highlight the Bushman Cosmology dating back thousands of years and the stories that they told about the many animals depicted, such as Eland, Zebra, Giraffe, Rhino and family of Black-Backed Jackal.

MOUNTAIN HIKE - We drive to a point halfway up Tonquani Gorge and hike up through the forest highlighting the indigenous trees, wild flowers, mushrooms, and herbs during the climb. Near the summit, we view the ancient carved face in the cliff – 4.5m high and sculpted thousands of years ago.

GAME DRIVE - These are led by a skilled ranger, and you can expect to encounter a diverse range of animal and bird species. These morning and afternoon drives make for spectacular viewing. There are more than 20 species of larger animals, as well as several types of antelope and plains game, not to mention smaller species like antbears, hyena, porcupine, and honey badgers.

ELEPHANT EXPERIENCE - Get up close and personal with our resident elephants. It gives you the chance to learn about African Elephants as you interact and feed these gentle giants – a truly unforgettable encounter.

THE PLUMARI HERITAGE MUSEUM - The museum is open daily and highlights the local history, geology, archaeology and paleoanthropology. Please refer to the brochure (link at bottom) for more information.
